These pictures are gorgeous. The kid and the Komondor look like they belong at Hogwarts:

I've been cross-posting from DW since 2009 but mostly reading on LJ. I intend to keep cross-posting*, but it looks like I'll need to do more reading on the DW side now. Be well, everyone.

*I may keep restricted-access posts just on the DW side, but I have no illusions about anything posted online being truly private (as opposed to limited in view by not being posted in the complete clear). That said, I think it's worthwhile to fight for as much online privacy and net neutrality as we can get.

Technically, this isn't done yet, but I just read 33 chapters in less than 12 hours, so I'm counting it.

The last chapter and author's note just posted. Such a perfect story.

(I expect everyone who reads my LJ/DW is already following along, but if anyone else has been too pressed for time, I heartily recommend carving some out for this.)

This was *exactly* the book I needed to read right now. It's brilliant.

I love these. (Warning: Contents contain spiders or snakes, also Christmas music. The spiders are the best, but the snakes are also pretty great.)

I ended up watching this accidentally. As I feared, the CGI animals did. not. work. for. me. at. all*.

The screenplay, however, worked marvelously: The strength of the pack is the wolf and the strength of the wolf is the pack, indeed.

*With the exception of the closing sequence with the book where they were small and stylized and meta enough to not bother me. You can also read this entry on Dreamwidth (comment count unavailable comments)

I used to be frustrated by comics because the world never stayed saved and then I realized that this was perhaps the truest thing comics had to say. The world doesn't stay saved. It's always a fight. We've lost some valuable ground, but America is still more accepting now than when I was a kid and the bullies are easier to identify, and I at least have more power against them. I know this isn't the case for everyone, but maybe people like me can help hold the bridge until the people who thought things weren't this bad open their eyes and get moving forward again.
